About this work

Description

Isagoge in Tegni Galeni. Written in a small gothic hand, 40 lines to a page, by the same scribe as that of MS. No.83 (Articella). Initials, headings, and paragraph marks in red. Fol. 1 (red) Incipiunt [sic] ysagoge Ioannis and tegni Galieni./Medicina diuiditur in duas partes... 6 ... Specierum cognitio v. modis fit. qualitas. aquantitias. [Tempus. ordo.] boni maliue discrepcio [sic]. There are numerous marginal notes, some in a microscopic hand by contemporary and 15th cent. hands-though many of these have been partly shorn in re-binding.

1 volume 6 ll. 8vo. 19 1/2 x 13 1/2 cm. On vellum, modern boards. Outer half of the last leaf torn away; margins badly cropped in rebinding.

Purchased 1922.

Biographical note

The 'Isagoge' was first printed, as part of the first edition of 'Articella' at Padua c. 1476 (G.K.W. 2678], and as a separate work at Leipzig in 1497. This MS. was originally part of a larger volume containing MS. No. 613 (Petrus de Albano) and MS. No. 83 (Articella). It has an early foliation 1-6, which is continued in the Articella MS.
