Recipe book manuscripts
Collection of medical receipts: with entries on astrology, interpretation of dreams, fortune-telling, etc.: in Greek throughout.
On p. 144 is a pen-drawn figure of a coiled serpent, and on the verso of the last leaf a similar serpent within a circular zodiacal diagram.
On p. 290v there is a small circular pen-drawn figure of the winds in red and black, and on fol. 5 a similar, but larger, figure in black.
There are a few ornamental initials in red and black, or black and red: headings in red.
Written mostly in a small neat hand: at the end there are a few additions by several contemporary hands.
Contents: Miscellaneous medical receipts (pp. 55-127). Lucky and unlucky days (128, 129). The months and their characters (130-132). Medical receipts (133-141). Moon-tables in red and black: dated from 1697 to 1715 (142, 143). On the months (144-159). Miscellaneous medical receipts, etc.: the palindrome 'Sator Arepo etc.' appears on p. 164 (160-385). Lucky days (385-388). Two further pages (numbered 389, 378). Zodiacal tables (409-411). Loose leaves, probably from the main text, containing astrological notes, medical receipts, etc. (ff. 2-24).
The slip-case has been lettered on the side 'Greek MS. c. 1600', but in view of the dates of the moon-tables as given above, this seems to be incorrect.
