Collection of human and veterinary medical recipes with some culinary recipes and and household recipes, e.g. for inks, grease and polishes. All recipes are written in the same hand. They have been copied from other sources all of whom are credited at the beginning or end of the recipe and include doctors, several common and aristocratic women, military men, apothecaries and druggists, from places in Britain. Some of the most often quoted female authorities are a Mrs Crewe Bolesworth, Lady Bradshaigh, Lady Aylesford, Miss Owen of Porkington and Mrs Rainsford Finedon. Also quoted a number of times are Dr Coles and others of that family name. There is also a recipe for "a running sore to stop and heal" by Thomas Chambre (p.3-4) whose name, and the year 1790, is inscribed on the inside front cover and to whom the book probably belonged. There is a method for pasting pictures upon cloth, by "an artist in this way" (p.39); a regimen for delicate or sickly persons (pp.114-117); and a regimen in intervals of gout (p.118-119, continued on p.135). In between pp.137-8 is a loose piece of paper with a recipe for a sprain. Contains detailed index at back of volume.
