About this work

Description

La fleur des recettes médicinales. Compiler's holograph MS. Additional receipts have been written in by other and later hands, in French and Italian; an entry on the inside of the back cover is dated 1772. The title as given above is that on the spine. The date of the original MS. seems probably to have been 1674, as this is given at the end of the compiler's 'Table' where it appears twice, though in each case '5' has been written over the original '7'. It is possible, however, that the original date has been altered to 1654 so as to fit the entry referring to Nicaise Lefèvre's Traicté de la chimie which is given that date in Le Gay's table of contents, where it is the eighth section of the MS. In his title-page Le Gay calls this MS. Produced in Paris.
