Description

Selecta ex eis quae D.O.M. abscondit a sapientibus, dispersit, deditque pauperibus ['praemissis constitutionibus' struck through] V.F.C. In French and Latin. Some leaves seem to have been taken out after p. 325, and the last 13 ll. are on the different paper. On p. 220 is a full-page pen-drawn illustration in red and black of alchemical apparatus, on pp. 108, 208, 240 smaller marginal drawings. On pp. 36, 45, 51, 68 small symbolic figures. Text within red rules, headings in red. On p. 128 'Anno Domini nostri J. C. 1687. Incoepi practicare opera praecedentia, cum labore magno ad finem perduxi'. On p. 132 'Opus ab amico perfectum 23a Aprilis 1701'. On the last leaf, by another hand, is the date 1782.

1 volume 2 ll. last bl.. + pp. 3-325 [327] + 4 ll. + 8 bl. ll. + 1 l. 8vo. 20 x 131/2 cm. Original gilt-stamped calf binding, worn: inside each cover is a vellum and linen pocket. The first leaf of the text is wanting, the lower third of the t.p. containing a pen-drawn coat of arms has been pasted on to the upper part, which is on different paper. P. 220 has been tripled in the pagination.
