About this work

Description

Founded in 1964. The Group originated from the Research Committee of the Society (see D.2/3). In Dec 1963 the Committee chairman collected views of members regarding the future organisation of research within the Society. Most of the 70 replies favoured the setting up of a Group. After some discussion, it was agreed to dissolve the large Research Committee, whose functions were very limited, and form a Group. The Group was regarded as an important advance in the activities of the Society. The first meeting was held on 10 June 1964.

Files in this section were those maintained by Dr J S Robertson, founder member and President 1972/73. They comprise papers relating to formation of the Group; agenda, copies of minutes and meeting papers of the Research Group Advisory Council, programmes of general meetings, or symposia, as they were called, with summaries of papers read (each symposium was themed); Robertson's correspondence with the Group Secretary and his correspondence as President of the Group 1972/73, mainly relating to research projects and their funding and symposia organisation, themes and speakers and comments on Society memoranda; various financial statements; transcript of a paper given by Robertson on Toxoplasmosis, Apr 1966; copies of various minutes of meetings of Representatives of Groups and Branches, of which Robertson was a member; and papers relating to the future of the Society, 1972-1973. Advisory Council minutes and summaries of symposia are incomplete.
