About this work

Description

Correspondence files, as maintained by Crick, comprising alphabetical files, individual correspondent files, and an outgoing letters sequence.

All correspondents are individually listed (excluding the sequences of outgoing letters, and invitations refused and pending). In some instances, key words have been attached (by the archivist) in brackets after a correspondent name to facilitate access, via the catalogue search function, to letter content that might otherwise escape immediate notice.

Researchers should note that there has been some loss of early correspondence. In a letter to James Watson (dated 16 July, 1975), Crick writes: “almost all my own early correspondence was unfortunately thrown away without my knowledge by an over-efficient Secretary..." (PP/CRI/D/2/45).
