Biographical note

In 1950 Cicely Watson was approached to undertake a study of French population policy. The results of this research were published in two articles in Population Studies in 1952 concerning the issues of abortion and contraception and migration. Dr Watson then completed research on the Belgian population, with the results published in Population Studies in 1954. Although the study was sponsored and supervised by the Population Investigation Committee, it was officially undertaken by the Department of Sociological and Demographic Research at the London School of Economics.
