Description

Varii variarum atque specialium compositionum medicarum modi, seu descriptiones. In German and Latin. Author's holograph MS. The second preliminary leaf contains a 'Verzaichnüs aller mein Justi Dillenii von mein und meiner hausfrawen Annen Margarethen Müllerin ... erwerbten und erkaufften güthern, an Neingarten, Pflanzgarten, Arkern, Wiesen undt andern'. Only the title of this has been written. On p. 111 there is an entry for a 'Specificum anti-epilepticum germani fratris mei D[omini] G[eorgii] Dillenii'. The British Library catalogue has an entry for a 'Dissertatio medica' by Georg Daniel Dillenius, dated 1689. The date 1711 is found on p. 124.

Biographical note

The author qualified M.D. at Giessen University and afterwards practised in Darmstadt. In 1688 he was appointed professor of medicine at his native University.

Ownership note

An autograph letter, dated 19 May, 1926, from S[ydney] A[lfred] Skan, of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, is inserted. It is addressed to a Mr. Knowles, and refers to G. D. Dillenius who is stated to be unknown. Pasted inside the upper cover is a printed address of G[eorge] M[atthews] Arnold of Milton Hall, Gravesend [1826-1908].
