Description

Exellent recepts and medicines of all soartes to be used when necessarye both for younge and owlde. Collected ... the 22th daye of August Anno domini 1629. The 12 ll. at the end contain notes on medical astrology and anatomy, complexions, humours, lucky days for bleeding, etc. Among the 24 unnumbered leaves are 'Recepts to presearve and consearve and to make jelley' as well as other cookery receipts, with some additions by later 17th cent. hands. Among some scribblings on the verso of the last leaf is the name of John Noble of Boyton.

1 volume 6 ll. + 187 pp. + 24 ll. + 12 ll. 4to. 19 x 141/2 cm. Original limp vellum covers from part of a contemporary legal document, defective: some leaves cut out towards the end, and others frayed and stained. Pp. 108-126 are wanting. In a cloth-bound wooden case.
