About this work

Description

In 1977 a questionnaire was circulated to all members of the Society to gauge the level of interest in reviving special interest groups. The groups proposed were: Epidemiology and Statistics, Mental Health, Health Service Management, Family Planning, Dental, Health Education, Environmental Health and Child Health. Replies, 177 out of a possible c.1200, indicated general approval of the idea, with Environmental Health attracting the most interest. However, there was a lack of support in organising their formation and in the end only two groups were formed: Environmental Health Special Interest Group, inaugural meeting 31 Oct 1979, and Child Health Special Interest Group, inaugural meeting 3 Sep 1980. The new Groups were fairly active and organised meetings, short courses and seminars.

Records of the Special Interest Groups are sparse, however, information on their establishment and reports of activities can be found in the minutes of Council (B.1/18 & 20) and News Bulletins (J.4/8)
