Biographical note

It was previously the practice for a RAMC bugler (a boy) to attend the Commandant on parade as "Commandant's Stick Boy". When boys ceased to be recruited, this role lapsed in 1952 when the last bugler attained man's service. From this point onwards the "best all-round recruit" in the senior company of recruits under training in the depot was selected weekly to be the "Commandant's Stick Orderly".
