About this work

Description

The Society had an important postgraduate training function for Medical Officers of Health in the Public Health Service. However, establishment of the Faculty of Community Medicine, the trauma of the 1974 NHS Reorganisation and the Society's internal problems meant that for some time this educational role was suspended. This temporary vacuum particularly affected the Clinical Medical Officers in the preventive medicine field. The Society revived these functions in the late 1970s.
