About this work

Description

Collection of medical receipts & formulae, technical receipts, chemical processes, etc., by several hands.

The text is mainly in German, but there are entries in English, Latin, and French.

Extra-illustrated with 12 engraved plates (5 folding) of furnaces, chemical apparatus, etc., from an unidentified work on industrial chemistry in German, and with 5 inserted red chalk drawings of tobacco-mills. A large part of the volume is written in double column.

There are numerous inserted receipts, advertisements of medicines, and newspaper cuttings.

On pp. 108-112 are specimens of pharmacy-seals in red and black wax, under the heading 'Compositiones alle Sorten Siegel-Lacc die solten in Franckfurth fabriciret werden'.

On pp. 56-65, 114-117 there are a number of remedies containing tobacco, as well as receipts for various kinds of tobacco, 'die solchen in Franckfurth fabriciret werden'.

Haymayer's name appears at the top of p. 1, and a large number of entries appear to be by his hand: on p. 187 is the date 1761.

The receipts on pp. 1-26 are by an earlier hand, perhaps that of Haymayer's father.

Probably produced in Frankfurt.
