Description

Her book of recepts. A collection of cookery and medical receipts. Written on the rectos only, and by an illiterate hand. There are a few additions by later 18th century owners, one dated 1797 and the other 1801.

1 volume 114 ll. 4to. 18 1/2 × 14 1/2 cm. Original calf binding worn. The lower half of one leaf about the middle of the volume has been cut away. Both front and back cover boards are detached.

Ownership note

Above and below the owner's inscription-the title as given above-is another in blue ink inside the upper cover: 'Very curious work with old receipts. Manuscript Receipt Book. Unique and useful and valuable, contains many excellent things. This Book is worth 12/6. Job Lousley's Book. Hampstead Norris Berks 1844'. The name, address, and date are repeated on the inside of the lower cover, and again in the middle of the volume. The writer is Job Lowsley [1790-1855], a well-known book-collector.
