Description

A note on pp. 81-83 is headed 'An account of remarkable frosts from the earliest periods to the present time': at the end of this the author remarks: 'The present frost began Nov. 1788 and lasted six weeks'. At the beginning and end of the volume there are specimen menus for large parties or club dinners, these are dated between 1807 and 1812. Written in pencil inside the upper cover: 'Welch of Reading 1839'.
