About this work

Description

Correspondence regarding the Workshop 'Concepts and Theories of Higher Brain Function', held at the Aspen Center for Physics, Aspen, Colorado. Crick attended from 24 August to 6 September, 1981.

The file includes a brief "Report by F H C Crick" (holograph, single sheet, dated 5 September), in which Crick notes: "... as a result of these discussions, I had what appears to be a completely novel idea: namely, that dendritic spines are mini-muscles, which twitch during neural activities. Whether this hypothesis has any validity remains to be seen." Cf. Crick, "Do dendritic spines twitch?" Trends in NeuroSciences, 5 (1982), 44-6.
