About this work

Description

Typescript (16 numbered sheets) of a lecture on the genetic code, written in French, beginning: "Le problème de code est essentielement un problème théoretique."

Textual evidence, including stress guidance marked in red pencil, suggests that it is the lecture referred to in Crick, What Mad Pursuit (1988), p. 98: "I was once persuaded by the molecular biologist François Jacob to give a talk to the physiology club in Paris...."

Note. Sheets numbered 12-16 were 'discovered' as a fragment amongst papers from a conference Crick attended in Teheran in 1976 (PP/CRI/E/1/24/6). They have been re-united with sheets 1-11 to form the complete text.
