Segment 1 Four different scenes are introduced: a young couple driving away from a party, a Gurkha soldier in Hong Kong driving to hospital, a soldier in deep sedation flying above London in an air ambulance and a soldier in a tank in Germany. The young couple have a car crash and the tank driver collapses. The narrator explains that all four sets of people will meet four special nurses: Jane in London, Debbie in Aldershot, Angela in Hong Kong and Ruth in Germany. The couple are brought to a military hospital in Aldershot, the Gurkha soldier visits his sick baby son in hospital, the unconscious soldier arrives at hospital in London and the tank driver is taken to hospital with acute appendicitis. The nurses are introduced as members of the Queen Alexandra's Royal army Nursing Corps. A brief history of military nursing is given, from Florence Nightingale, through the World Wars, to the present day. This is illustrated by paintings and photographs. Time start: 00:00:00:00 Time end: 00:05:29:16 Length: 00:05:29:16
Segment 2 The Q.A. training centre in Aldershot is seen. Female student nurses arrive to begin their five weeks' basic training. Their living quarters, uniforms, medicals and first aid training are seen. The nurses are seen at leisure, making friends and walking about the grounds. After five weeks, they begin practical training in an active military hospital in the UK. They are seen familiarising themselves with hospital life. Non-medical jobs within the Q.A. are also seen: ward stewardess, medical clerk, personnel officer, dental clerk assistant and dental hygienist. A montage to music of various hospital scenes is shown. Time start: 00:05:29:16 Time end: 00:10:57:20 Length: 00:05:28:04
Segment 3 After 6 to 12 months, they may then go abroad for more training. In Hong Kong, Angela is seen swimming and drinking with friends. Hong Kong street scenes are also shown. Ruth is seen in Germany. Another montage of nursing activities is shown. The narrator describes life as a fully qualified nurse, saying that they can go on to do further training such as midwifery. A nurse is seen bathing a newborn. The film ends with the narrator saying, 'Caring is what it's all about'. Time start: 00:10:57:20 Time end: 00:17:30:13 Length: 00:06:32:18
