Description
This surgical demonstration of the aseptic closure of a caescostomy stoma (artificial opening on abdomen to collect waste) includes shots of the skin incised, the stoma closed, the caecum free from skin, the bowel double clamped, the redundant portion excised, the cut crushed edge sutured, invaginating sutures and the closure of the abdomen. 2 segments.

Segment 1 The intertitles explain that a stoma must be closed by surgery when it has finished its purpose of draining the colon of obstructing waste. An incision is made around the stoma, with the intertitles giving detailed instructions. The skin flaps are dissected up towards the stoma and then sutured together to prevent the escape of faecal matter. The caecum is dissected until the peritoneum is exposed. Segment 2 The clamped portion of the bowel is trimmed. The two crushed portions of the bowel are sewn together. The clamps are removed and the bowel pushed in.
