Segment 1 The intertitles introduce the patient, a male, and explain that he can only open his eyelids with his hands. The patient is shown attempting to open his eyes unaided, and clearly finds it difficult. He then holds his cheeks in order to open his eyes. The next intertitle indicates that he has difficulty walking because of his eyesight, and he is seen walking forward, stepping into a hoop on the floor, and stepping out again. The intertitles explain that his eyes can only be opened at the same time that the mouth is open, and that in cases such as this, psychotherapy is advised.
