Ralphe Barret(t) is named as a barber-surgeon in The annals of the barber-surgeons of London, ed. Sidney Young, London 1890, p. 322, entry for 15 July 1600: "Ralphe Barrett & Robert Thompson, two forren surgeons" (i.e. not free of the Company) requested examination. He is not mentioned as serving James I by Elizabeth Lane Furdell, The royal doctors, 1485-1714: medical personnel at the Tudor and Stuart courts, Rochester, New York: University of Rochester Press, ca. 2001
