The National Childbirth Trust: who we are, what we do and why we do it.

A film about the activities of the National Childbirth Trust. A class is in progress with expectant parents. A mother talks about the benefits of attending classes so that they experience childbirth with confidence. Julia Morritt, an antenatal teacher, talks about the outreach work the organisation carries out. In schools, babies are introduced to primary aged children. Going back to the roots of the NCT, 'childbirth without fear', empowers parents to improve the care they receive. Caroline Flint, Director of the Birth Centre, talks about the time when men were not permitted in the delivery room. Mary Newburn, Head of NCT Policy Research, talks about the lobbying the NCT for maternity care to be parent centred. In Oban, there was a campaign to access local maternity care which the NCT supported. The head-office at the NCT supports volunteers and runs a library. There is a busy telephone support service. Fundraising activities are described (nearly new sales, book sales). Bernadette Matus, NCT Trustee, extolls the contribution of the local volunteers.
