About this work

Description

The wagonettes are mostly decorated for ‘Hospital Saturday’. Photograph 1 shows a decorated wagonette and horse, with Retreat nurses on top, c 1900. Photographs 2-3 show a wagonette carrying on it a large model of a ship, with people in fancy dress, c 1900 (one of the photographs has been sent as a postcard to HC Hunt in 1922). Photograph 4 shows a horse and carriage in front of the Retreat for a celebratory event, 11 July 2000
