A Fellow of the College, he became a prominent physician in Liverpool where he published the above work. One of the first physicians in Britain to use cold water packs in the treatment of fever, Currie also made some original observations on the clinical use of the thermometer. He is also remembered as the first editor and biographer of the poet Robert Burns
