About this work

Description

Shot in Cape Town, South Africa, this film was originally silent with a voice-over sound track added later. The film shows the surgical resection of three ribs and apicolysis followed by resection of four ribs and apicolysis. Post operative physiotherapy is then shown; the patient is shot with his back to camera exercising outside with a nurse. Supplemented by medical animated diagrams and x-ray shots. The intertitles were added and contextualise the surgical approach treatment; effective drug treatments were available not long after this film was originally made. 1 segment.
