Apparently devised by Ralph Noel Pocock of Hampstead (ca. 1879-1949), as a pair with a similar set of portraits entitled 'Told to the Marines' . He served in World War I in the 2nd/4 Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry, Each series was also available as six separate cards
