In the correspondence Doty discusses his recent trip to the Biology Department at Harvard and his conversations with McGeorge Bundy on how Bundy intended to modernise the Department and how he was hoping Pontecorvo would help with this if he accepted the position at Harvard.

Biographical note

Doty worked was Emeritus Professor of Biochemistry at Harvard University. He helped to create the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Harvard and it is said that he played a role in recruiting James Dewey ("Jim") Watson as Assistant Professor there.
