Cookery-books: 18th cent.

Collection of cookery, medical and miscellaneous receipts: bound in at the end of a printed copy of 'The Ladies Companion; or the House-keeper's Guide...By a Gentlewoman. London. 1756'. The 24 ll. at the end contain the MS. additions, which are written by the same hand, though from fol. 16 a different ink is used; two receipts on this leaf are dated 1763. The last 4 ll. contain indexes, both to the printed book and to the MS. additions, by the same hand.

1 volume 80 pp. + 20 ff. + 4 ll. last bl.. 8vo. 16 x 10 cm. Modern calf binding. The lower margin of the printed book has been cut down, and the date has been excised.

This volume is entered on p. 83 of A. W. Oxford's 'English Cookery-books to the year 1850' published in 1913, and also formed part of Lot 111 of the Sale of his Collection at Sotheby's on 30 March, 1914.
