About this work

Description

Collection of cookery, household and medical recipes, in various hands, early 19th century. Many of the entries are pasted in, as in a scrapbook, some in the form of press cuttings (one from the Greenock Advertiser, f. 23v.); there is also a printed `receipt to make the chocolate' (f. 38.) Two recipes are ascribed to a Miss Shipp of Grimstone [Dorset] (ff. 23v., 37v.). The medical entries include a remedy `for the Cholera Morbus ... from St Petersburgh July 1831' (f. 26v.) Many of the cookery recipes are written from the rear of the volume. A number of entries are inserted loose. Paper watermarked 1810.
