Description

Written in a current humanistic hand, 35 line to a page. Large illuminated capital R in gold and colours on fol. 3v, other initials in gold on coloured grounds of blue and red, green and red, or red and blue, headings in red. The headings, etc. are somewhat faded. Fol. 1 (Index) C. i. (red) Epistola siue prohemium/de natura equi/... 3v, line 9 C. lxxxiii. (red) Memorabilia seu notabilia. line 10 (red) Laurentii nuncupati Ruzii mareschalchi de Vrbe Libel/lus de natura equorum et de curatione omnium infirmi/tatum que accidere possint eis ad Reuerendum in Christo/Patrem et dominum suum D. N. sancti adriani/diaconum Cardinalem. salutem. Epistola siue prohemium. The Explicit is followed by two receipts by the same hand (fol. 70v).

1 volume 70 ll. 4to. 21 1/2 x 16 cm. On vellum. Original stamped leather binding, badly worn. Margins slightly cropped in binding.

Purchased 1921.

Biographical note

There are a few marginal notes and veterninary receipts by later 15th century hands, in Latin and Italian. The Cardinal D. N. mentioned in the 'Prohemium' is D[ominus] N[apoleone Orsini] [1288-1347]. the work was first printed at Speyer by J. and C. Rist, c. 1488, and in Italian at Venice in 1543.
