About this work

Description

Receipt book containing medical and cookery receipts: with numerous later additions by various hands, including some household and miscellaneous receipts. The original entries, perhaps written c. 1750, are in a large italic script and are scattered throughout the volume between p. 11 and p. 288. The largest group seems to have been written in the first quarter of the 19th cent., and many of the receipts are dated: the latest date is 1853 on p. 302. Pp. 96-99 contain prescriptions, etc. for Fr. Smyth Esqre. and Mrs. Smyth by Alexander Hunter [1729-1809] dated 1788, and by Thomas Kilvington [1732-1823], dated 1795 and 1797.
