About this work

Description

Diary from 1463 to 1504, continued by his son Antoine from 1521 to 1571. Included are many medical receipts, the whole written in langue d'oc. Followed by receipts for varnishes and dyes by an early 17th cent. hand: in French, etc. The diary begins on fol. 2: Ihesus Maria 1463 / Je esteue cristian de bourg en breyssan / suis venu en auignon á xv de nouembre / M cccc lxiii. The receipts begin on fol. 6 after an entry for 1502 which seems to be the date when the MS. was begun. Ff. 6-17 contain medical receipts; and on fol. 17 entries begin in a new hand, that of Antoine Cristian, who mentions himself on fol. 18v 'Je anthoene crestyan' and speaks of his marriage to his first wife Catheryne Tullye in 1522. 17-28 Diary from 1519 to 1542. 28v-30 Blank. Fol. 30v Entry for 1569. 31 Entry for 1571. Ff. 32-39 Receipts for dyes and varnishes in a small early 17th cent. hand. Fol. 40 Opiate de Salomon by the same hand. Ff. 41-43 'Panchimagone ou blanchiment'. By a later 17th cent. hand. Fol. 44 'Mèdecine pour mon fils ainè Bonioti' by a different 17th cent. hand. Produced in Avignon.

1 volume 44 ll. (first bl.). 16mo. 13 x 10 cm. Original stamped calf binding with flap and tie, damaged. Five leaves have been cut out after fol. 31.
