About this work

Description

Collection of medical, cookery and other recipes in various hands, mid 19th century. Most of the medical remedies and prescriptions are written from the front of the book (ff. 3-22), the bulk of the culinary recipes from the rear (ff. 85-54v.). Several recipes are dated at Cheltenham, including those of Dr Abercrombie [John Abercrombie MD, FRCP, 1817-1892] and Capt. Bradshaw RN, 1856 (f. 14v.), and Col. Stevenson, 1862 (f. 17v.). Other medical authorities include Dr Colledge [Thomas Richardson Colledge, 1796-1879, physician at Cheltenham] (ff. 18v., 19v., 21v.) and Dr Symons (f. 65v.). A number of recipes are inserted loose, two addressed to a Captain Savary.
