About this work

Description

Letters from Nora Quin (1904-1950) mainly to her sister Cissie (Mrs Roland Black), with a few to her mother, notice of her death, and notes on the family relationships. Most of the letters were written in the City Mental Hospital, Fulford, York, in which Quin was incarcerated in 1936 and where she died aged 46. Quin, a typist, had two children, was cast out by family and was in a workhouse before being certified.

These letters were given to the library at Wellcome Collection in July 2004 by Ms Ann Francis, Nora Quin's niece.
