About this work

Description

Collection of extracts from alchemical authors, alchemical processes, chemical and medical receipts, receipts for making artificial gems, etc.: Headings and many marginal notes in red, illustrated with numerous rough pen-drawings, mostly in red, of alchemical apparatus. The date 1506 is given at the end of a receipt for 'Vitriolum Romanum' on fol. 28v. Some of the marginal notes seem to be by a different and rather later 16th cent. hand. The first and last leaves are pasted down on the covers. On the second leaf is written 'Doct[oris] Anonimi'. Inside the upper cover 'No. 10. Johannes Keirast [?] Ma[gister?] P[harmaciae?]', in a 16th cent. hand.
