About this work

Description

Two undated typescripts (one an earlier draft with additions) with the title "The chemistry of genetics."

Although undated, the text may relate to Crick's engagement at Cornell University to give the James B Sumner Lectures (1966), under the general title "The Chemistry of Genetics". Furthermore, internal textual evidence (e.g. the reference on p. 5 to the in vitro DNA synthesis work of Goulian, Kornberg, & Sinsheimer) suggests a similar date.

The file also includes a long letter (holograph, pencil, 14 sheets, n.d.) from Crick to "Carl" discussing a manuscript recently received (extract: "Dear Carl, / I was at first a little embarrassed to receive your manuscript, because as you know I am now mainly interested in pattern formation, but as soon as I looked at it I found it very interesting. I then took a liberty for which I hope you will forgive me. I showed it to several people in the lab. and then arranged a small colloquium about it...").
