The children are shown studying Maths and English, and using a variety of ways to communicate, including letter tiles, word stamps and an alphabet clock. The narrator explains that each child has to be taught in a different way particular to their needs. The children are also shown learning practical skills such as cooking, thereby helping them on their way to independence. A young girl is shown having speech therapy. Segment 2 A physiotherapist is shown measuring a child for the right sized table and chair, and helping a boy ride a bicycle. The children are shown playing in the playground, and the narrator explains that many children had to be taught how to play, as they had never been able to do fun activities before. The children go on a trip to the seaside. The children are shown at lunchtime, eating, and then resting after lunch. One girl is a member of the Brownies, and she recites the Brownie promise. The children play with the children at the junior school next door. The narrator asks what will happen to the children when they leave Claremont and whether they will be able to find employers and friends.
