Segment 1 The film begins some way into the operation, with the patient's abdomen already incised and their colon exposed. The carcinoma is in the transverse colon. The intertitles describe the steps of the procedure. The colon is divided. The colon is crushed and divided using triple clamps. The ends of the severed colon are protected by oiled silk. Segment 3 The suture line is protected with grafts. A rubber catheter is inserted. Fat is sutured around the colostomy tube. The surgical instruments are removed.
