Segment 1 The female patient's head has been shaved and is prepared for surgery. The intertitles give the patient's history. Local anaesthetic is administered. The equipment to be used is a 'skull plough' and the intertitles and a diagram explains how it works. The scalp is cut, and forceps stem the bleeding. Time start: 00:00:00:00 Time end: 00:06:00:22 Length: 00:06:00:22
Segment 2 The scalp is incised. Holes are drilled in the bone ready for the 'skull plough'. The bone is cut with the plough, with the intertitles explaining how it is being used. Time start: 00:06:00:22 Time end: 00:12:31:08 Length: 00:06:30:11
Segment 3 The bone flap is lifted off and the dura mater (outermost layer surrounding the brain) is examined. The dura mater is opened and the brain is exposed. Time start: 00:12:31:08 Time end: 00:18:01:08 Length: 00:05:30:00
Segment 4 The brain is examined. No tumour is found. A bone defect is produced beneath the temporal muscle to produce decompression. The bone flap is replaced. The scalp is sutured. The operation is complete and dressings are applied. The patient is shown awake in bed. Time start: 00:18:01:08 Time end: 00:24:08:05 Length: 00:06:06:22
