Segment 1 The female patient's head has been shaved and is prepared for surgery. The intertitles give the patient's history. Local anaesthetic is administered. The equipment to be used is a 'skull plough' and the intertitles and a diagram explains how it works. The scalp is cut, and forceps stem the bleeding. Segment 4 The brain is examined. No tumour is found. A bone defect is produced beneath the temporal muscle to produce decompression. The bone flap is replaced. The scalp is sutured.
