Segment 1 Intertitles describe the most important and serious types of infections of the hand: lymphangitis, fascial-space abscesses and tenosynovitis. Intertitles and diagrams describe the condition of lymphangitis. The anatomy of the bone and muscle anatomy of the hand is shown in an illustrated diagram. Time start: 00:00:00:00 Time end: 00:08:03:15 Length: 00:08:03:15
Segment 2 A diagram of the cross section of the hand is shown. Various types of fascial-space abscesses are discussed. Further diagrams are used to show how infections occur and what they are caused by. A diagram shows an infected tendon sheath. Resulting swelling of the palm is shown in a diagram. Time start: 00:08:03:15 Time end: 00:15:01:02 Length: 00:06:57:12
Segment 3 A hypothetical case is presented where the middle palmar space is infected. A diagram shows how to incise the palm of the hand as treatment. The area is drained. The condition of tenosynovitis is described by intertitles and diagrams. Time start: 00:15:01:02 Time end: 00:21:36:03 Length: 00:06:35:01
Segment 4 The sheaths of the flexor tendons of the fingers are described by intertitles and diagrams. The intertitles explain what happens when pus fills the hand in cases of infection. Diagrams show pus passing along the hand. Time start: 00:21:36:03 Time end: 00:27:53:18 Length: 00:06:17:15
Segment 5 Intertitles and diagrams show how infection spreads through the hand, and can spread up to the forearm. A diagram shows pus filling the arm. Cases of neglected infection are described. A diagram of an infected finger is shown and symptoms are described by intertitles and diagrams. Time start: 00:27:53:18 Time end: 00:34:57:21 Length: 00:07:04:03
Segment 6 Intertitles describe how to drain pus from different points on an infected hand, including the finger, palm, thumb, side of hand and wrist. This is also shown on various diagrams. Time start: 00:34:57:21 Time end: 00:40:44:15 Length: 00:05:46:19
Segment 7 Aftercare for an infected hand is described by intertitles. This includes steps for aseptic care, maintenance of the position of function and early institution of active and passive motion. The intertitles warn that failure to provide correct aftercare may end in contracture, loss of tendons and ankylosis. Patients who have been treated for infections of the hand show their hands to the camera. Time start: 00:40:44:15 Time end: 00:47:21:13 Length: 00:06:36:23
