About this work

Description

Magazine insert advertising Bovril beef extract. A poem on the back promotes it as a nourishing food. Reference is made to a Hospital tent, soldiers (Tommy) and sailors (Jack) suggesting this is from the period of the first World War. The colour illustration on the front shows a woman in a long lavender dress at a kitchen table, preparing a meal, looking for the Bovril while a small girl sits on a cushion underneath eating it with her fingers, toy doll and bull to either side of her.
